CORE PROGRAMME
The construction pathways programme is comprised of a blend of class-based theory, simulated practical training and onsite experience.
Learners will benefit from practical training with an introduction to bricklaying, plastering and other trades in our large trade workshops. Alongside theory, training to prepare candidates for the HSE test and local employer requirements.
The programme runs across 4 weeks, following successful completion learners will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills qualification and, are guaranteed a job interview with our recruitment partners and contractors.
We encourage anyone not already working in the sector to apply regardless of their abilities, background or experience.
Programme includes:
- Level 1 City and Guilds Health & Safety in Construction – the CSCS HSE Test Preparation
- The CSCS card and test
- Level 1 Award in Asbestos Awareness
- Work skills and CV and Interview preparation
- Onsite work experience
- Site tours and equipment demonstrations
- Career mentoring with an industry professional.
APPRENTICESHIPS
Apprenticeships are a great way for individuals to get into the construction industry and, upskill the existing workforce.
NHC Construction Hub will work with Hart Learning & Development to offer apprenticeships and employment opportunities with local businesses.
Depending on the programme an apprenticeship can last between 2 – 4 years.
Learners will gain a recognised qualification and the skills, knowledge and experience needed to succeed in the sector.

SHORT COURSES
Our short courses offer technical and practical skills in specific trades. Using industry-standard facilities learners will have the opportunity to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the construction sector.
These beginner courses are suitable for individuals interested in gaining or improving their skills to progress their career in the construction sector.
Courses are delivered on a part-time basis offering flexibility, allowing learners to fit learning around existing schedules. Delivered onsite and take place over the course of 12 – 24 months depending on the chosen course.
Following successful completion, learners will receive an industry-recognised qualification to support their career in the construction sector.
Bespoke short programmes can be delivered to teams in line with organisational training needs.

FULL-TIME COURSES
North Hertfordshire College’s vocational courses are a great first step for school leavers seeking to pursue a career in the construction industry.
